Mbrotir L®

Mbrotir L® contains the active substance potassium iodide, a chemical compound used as a medication and dietary supplement. It acts as a thyroid blocking agent to prevent harm caused by radioactive iodine. Mbrotir L® is used in cases of nuclear or nuclear reactor accidents, where radioactive iodine may be released and taken up by the thyroid. The uptake of radioactive iodine can be prevented by taking non-radioactive iodine (such as potassium iodide) before or during contamination. When taken by individuals exposed to radioactive iodine, potassium iodide saturates the thyroid with non-radioactive iodine, thereby blocking the absorption of radioactive iodine from contaminated air, water, milk, and other sources.
